Experience support.
Let's get started.

Meet the Doula!

A little about me...
I am happily married to my college sweetheart for 22 years and we have three amazing boys.  As a mom who has given birth to three children (two of those babies were born in the hospital and one was born at home), I learned from all of those experiences that giving birth is really hard work, good support is essential, and no birth is ever the same nor does it come with guarantees.

Even though each birth was vastly different, the one common thread through each experience was that I had an amazing support system of people who believed in me, encouraged me, and sought to be my biggest cheerleaders from start to finish.  This inspired me to be that person for someone else. For the past two years, I have been consistently serving families as a labor doula and childbirth educator here in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

I am a trained and certified professional doula offering non-judgmental support to my clients.  I make it my goal to prepare them for the kind of birth they desire and commit to walk beside them every step of the way.

I am also a certified childbirth educator offering personalized, private classes to couples wanting to learn about any and every aspect of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and beyond.

As a doula and childbirth educator, my number one priority  is to help my clients be as informed and supported as possible from start to finish in their pregnancy and initial postpartum  journey.

Doula FAQs:

The Scope of a Doula....
  • A doula is not a medical professional.  She does not perform clinical tasks such as fetal monitoring or vaginal exams.  She will not deliver the baby or try to take over the role of the medical professional(s) or partner.  She will not give medical advice or diagnose conditions.
  • She will not judge her client for her choices, but will support her as she makes informed decisions for herself and her baby.
  • She will provide unbiased emotional and physical support to the mother.
  • She will use comfort measures such as breathing, relaxation, position changes, and movement as she serves the mother.
What are the Benefits of a Doula's Presence at the Birth?
  • Numerous clinical studies have shown that a doula's presence at the birth often results in shorter labors with fewer interventions and complications.
  • Her presence can reduce negative feelings about her birth experience.
  • Her assistance can reduce the need for pitocin, medical interventions (such as forceps and vacuum extraction), and reduce the need for cesareans.
  • Her presence can reduce the mother's request for pain medication and/or epidurals if that's her desire.
Research Shows Parents Who Receive Doula Support:
  • Feel more secure and cared for
  • Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
  • Have greater success with breastfeeding
  • Have greater self-confidence
  • Have less postpartum depression
"If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it." ~Dr. John H. Kennell, M.D.
